Ratings and Reviews
As Poor and Confusing as the MTA Itself
Why can't the MTA just build a simple app that shows the train times and track numbers? I am sure developing this app employed many people but wow what a waste of talent.
This app fails for the following reasons:
1. No favorites on the main page. HELLO. This is NYC. People have their trips planned out. Put a button bar there for quick access.
2. You choose a trip and a list of trains/tracks pop up. Lovely! Try tapping on them. What pops up? A map of Westchester. Guess what doesn't show up? Your train and track. As if anybody cares what Westchester looks like? I know they are trying to show a map of the system and your stops but NYers don't really need that. It should be a secondary or tertiary tab for interested parties.
3. No ticket integration.
This is better than nothing but wow just build a simple app with the info that NYers want: when and where is my train. Leave the pretty art for the MoMA.
Good but with minor bugs that can be easily fixed.
1. The map is very very choppy when zooming in, it is hardly unusable and it is an important feature because without panning is hard to see in what station the train is. The LIRR app map is a lot better in this regard, look at that map and emulate it.
2. Do not delete the schedules for the trains that have departed within a couple of hours from the station you are searching. It is often necessary to look at a train that has departed if someone you are expecting is on that train.
3. If your iPhone is running on Zoomed screen mode the text in the app gets cut off and because dysfunctional.
Unless trains are on time, it's not that helpful
It'll show you the scheduled times of trains. That's it. No delay notices or time estimate for arrival. Most reliable way to tell is the map that shows where the train is currently at, so you can guess when it'll actually show based on that. Once the train time expires, like a train scheduled at 9am, 9:01 its bumped off the schedule even if it still hasn't arrived at station so you don't get any further info on where or when its arriving. Alerts are rarely updated and give bogus general delay times. A lot of my trains have had service changes to include more stops because they keep running late but that doesn't show on the app. It would be helpful to know on a delayed or extended train when you are actually going to arrive at your destination.
